Cougars Edge Lady Colonels in Defensive Struggle

RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — Lauren Miller scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead SIU Edwardsville to a 56-51 win over Eastern Kentucky in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Friday afternoon at McBrayer Arena.

In a contest defined by poor shooting, the Cougars (2-0) held off a fourth-quarter push from the Lady Colonels (1-1). SIU Edwardsville shot just 36.4% from the field and 20% from 3-point range, while Eastern Kentucky was limited to 30.5% shooting. Miller, a guard from Camp Point, Illinois, was the primary offensive force in an otherwise sluggish game. Kiyoko Proctor added 10 points for the Cougars. Liz Freihofer led Eastern Kentucky with 11 points and seven rebounds.
