What can we help you with today? Most questions can be answered by our FAQ.
Accounts
What personal information do you collect, and how do you use it?
The GDPR requires websites doing business in the European Union to provide a clear, concise summary of personal data usage. National Statistical collects email addresses to be used as login credentials and as a means of communication, including a periodic e-mail list that provides one-click opt-out. This website uses cookies only to keep customers logged into their accounts. We track visitor IP addresses and the NatStat URLs they access, and account-identifiable data is removed from our access logs after 30 days. We do not store or utilize any third-party cookies. (Customers who use Log In With Google may have their National Statistical usage tracked by Google, as per their usage agreements.)<
We do not store any personal or financial information in our database. All subscription payments are processed by a third party (Stripe), which provides no NatStat account management services. Conversely, NatStat provides no financial services.
What are the different types of subscriptions you offer, and how much do they cost?
The Level 1 Ticket is unlimited web and data access to one of the sites in our network. You can get three sites on our Level 3 Ticket for a reduced cost, or a Level 5 Ticket with five sites. The Skybox Ticket contains all 30 of our sites. Check out our subscriptions page for full details.
What's the difference between a Level (1/3/5) subscription, a Sport Family Pak, and Skybox?
A Level subscription (Level 1/3/5) lets you pick a fixed number of individual leagues, and swap them out every 15 days. A Sport Family Pak gives you every league within one sport (all 17 basketball leagues, all five hockey leagues or all five baseball leagues) as a comprehensive bundle. A Skybox subscription includes every league across every sport we cover. See our subscriptions page for current pricing and full details.
Do you offer a free tier or limited free access without subscribing?
You can browse the site with a limited number of free pageviews, which increases once you sign up for a free account. Full, unlimited access requires an active subscription. Check our subscriptions page for pricing and current promotions.
Can I get a trial subscription?
NatStat no longer offers trial periods. You may browse our site for a short time, and extend your number of free pageviews when you sign up for an account. We offer a variety of affordable packages, including data exports and API access , starting at just $8.49 per month.
Do you offer group discounts for teams, leagues or organizations?
We discontinued our group discount program in 2018. We offer a variety of affordable packages, including data exports and API access, starting at just $8.49 per month.
Do you still offer lifetime passes like the League, Sport or Full Pass?
We no longer offer lifetime access packages, except for occasional sales. Please check our subscription page for the latest deals, and make sure you're subscribed to our mailing list.
How does the league "cooloff" period work?
Each league slot in your subscription has its own 15-day cooloff, starting from when you first choose or change it. Once 15 days have elapsed, you can swap it for a different one of NatStat's 30 basketball, baseball, hockey, football and soccer leagues on your Leagues page. Swapping one league doesn't affect the cooloff on any of your other slots.
Can I change which leagues I have access to?
You may change the leagues you have access to once every 15 days. For instance, if you have an L3 monthly ticket with access to NBA, GL and MBB, you can switch to MLB, MiLB and KBO once baseball season starts. There is a cooloff period of 15 days every time you make a change, and you cannot change your league access within the first 15 days after purchasing a Ticket.
How do I upgrade my subscription?
You can always purchase another subscription. For instance, if you have a Level 1 (single-league) subscription and want to add another Level 1, you can buy it for $8.49 and get access to a second among NatStat's 30 leagues. The previous subscription will continue until you cancel it.
Can I pay with something other than a credit card?
Yes, our checkout (powered by Stripe) supports Link, and in many regions also supports Buy Now Pay Later options and select cryptocurrency payments, depending on what's available in your location.
How do I update my payment method or view my billing history?
Click Billing on your account page to open the Stripe billing portal, where you can update your ayment nethod, view invoices, and manage your subscription. National Statistical does not store payment information.
Do you offer refunds if I cancel partway through a billing period?
As noted in our disclaimer, we do not offer partial-period refunds under any circumstances. Cancelling stops future billing, and you'll retain access through the end of your current paid period.
How do I cancel my subscription?
If you purchased a monthly or annual recurring subscription, you can easily cancel via the Stripe billing control panel. Your access will run until the end of the current billing period, and Stripe will not bill you again. Please note that we do not offer partial month refunds.
How do I delete my National Statistical account?
You can delete your National Statistical account under Profile on your Account page. This will also cancel any subscriptions with immediate effect (with no pro-rated refund), and delete the associated Stripe account. National Statistical does not manage payments, nor do we store any payment information in our databases. As per privacy laws in multiple global jurisdictions, we do not maintain any records associated with deleted accounts.
Stats
When is game data available?
Pro league boxscores and play-by-play are usually posted within a half-hour of the final buzzer. College basketball scores for larger conferences are available in the same timeframe, though smaller conferences might take more time. In some cases, small-conference data may be delayed up to one day due to data collection issues on press row. Stat grids and tables are updated every hour.
When are statistics and rankings compiled?
Advanced stat calculations for teams and players, rankings, situational stats and insights are compiled as soon as new boxscores are processed. Data exports are available on demand, Raw data is available through our API.
Is play-by-play data available for all games?
How do I search for a specific team, player, or game?
The search bar at the top of any non-league page searches across all teams, players and leagues National Statistical covers. Each of the 30 league hubs also have their own quick-search functions, scoped to just that league.
How do you calculate your money lines and spreads?
Money lines and spreads are provided by Betsson in Sweden, as they are the only service that provides hockey, baseball and basketball lines from all continents. Money lines are translated from Decimal format to American format. We are a paid customer of Betsson and do not formally endorse the company in any manner.
How do you calculate your game predictions?
Basketball score predictions are based on teams' offensive and defensive efficiency, with multipliers for the league average, home/away location and fatigue. The underlying basis for the formula is this blog post from The Basketball Distribution from 2009. The average overall performance of this model as of April 2025 is 67.4% correct.
Baseball score predictions are built on John White's MLB game predictor model, taking into account both teams' ERA, winning percentage and OPS, as well as the projected starting pitchers. The average overall performance of this model as of April 2025 is 61.2% correct.
Hockey score predictions are based on a simplified Corsica model as described here. The average overall performance of this model as of April 2025 is 63.0% correct.
What are ELO ratings?
ELO ratings were invented by physics professor Arpad Elo to rate chess players, but the formula is flexible enough to handle any type of competition. Teams gain points for winning games and lose points after losing. The number of points the winner wins is the same as how much the loser loses, so it is a zero-sum system. More points are transferred after upset wins, games won by wider margins, and playoff games.
Because ELO ratings show relative strength of teams, we can generate win probabilities for games based on the ELO rating difference between the teams involved. National Statistical calculates these probabilities before each game, presents them on the website, then highlights in green for correct and red for wrong.
You can read more about the details of ELO ratings and adjustments at Baseball Prospectus, Hockey Analytics or Opisthokonta.
Do you offer ELO ratings for every league you cover?
Yes, calculated back to the first season of NatStat coverage.
What's the difference between ELO rank and ELO rating?
ELO rating is the raw numeric score; ELO rank is simply that team's position when every team in its league is sorted by rating, highest to lowest.
What is a Team Context Rating (TCR), and how is it different from ELO?
TCR evaluates a team across several sport-specific criteria each season (for example, offense, defense, strength of schedule) and produces a points-based ranking, distinct from ELO's purely win/loss-margin-driven rating. The two measure different things and often diverge — TCR looks at how a team plays, ELO looks at whether it wins.
What is a Player Context Rating (PCR)?
PCR is a player-level version of our Context Rating system, scoring a player across several sport-specific criteria each season. Not every sport has a PCR — check the Context Rating tab on a player's page to see availability.
Why don't all sports/leagues have Team and Player Context Ratings?
Context Ratings require play-by-play data, and we do not offer it for some cmaller internaional leagues yet. We're working on it.
What is (Adjusted) Presence Rate?
Presence Rate (PrRt) is a basketball statistic we invented to track overall player activity during a game. It is calculated as the percentage of a team's play-by-play entries that a player initiated, and Adjusted Presence Rate (APrRt) is weighted positively with scoring plays and negatively with turnovers and fouls. It is somewhat more accurate as a measurement of a player's overall in-game contributions than Usage Rate, as it measures activity beyond shot attempts and turnovers.
What are Superlatives, and how are single-game/season records determined?
Superlatives are the record book for each level — the best (and sometimes worst) individual single-game and season performances across our tracked stat categories, recalculated regularly as new games are added.
What do the zones and X/Y coordinates on your pitch charts correlate to?
Pitch locations are converted and simplified from various data sources to a 0-to-100 scale on X and Y axes. Zone quadrants are numbered from 1 to 9 in three rows left to right, from the pitcher's perspective. The outside zones 11 through 14 are also laid out left to right from the pitcher's perspective.
How do you calculate basketball possessions?
We apply the standard (FGA + .475 * FTA - OREB + TOV) estimate on all incoming boxscore data from our multiple data providers, so the same formula is used on all 17 of the basketball sites in our network.
Data
How often is the website and API updated?
Scores are updated in real-time as available. Boxscore pages are updated minutes after data becomes available. ELO and Context ratings are regenerated every two hours. Team and player rankings and situational stats are tabulated five times daily. Data insights are generated every morning. Schedules and rosters are updated three times daily.
What type of usage license do you offer with your data?
Usage of this system and provided services grants a non-exclusive commercial license for any and all data retrieved via our websites and API. We are not responsible for any data or financial loss/damages that arise from use of our systems; please refer to our disclaimer for more information on liability, warranties and exceptions/exclusions. The design of our databases and delivery systems is ©2007-2025 National Statistical, all rights reserved.
How do the new Data Exports with the multi-season downloads work?
Data Export is included with all subscriptions, and supports CSV, Excel, OpenOffice, XML and JSON formats. You can download up to a certain amount of data (usually 250MB) per day, along with a single large over-quota file – e.g., one multi-gigabyte play-by-play tranche. Limits reset at midnight Eastern Time.
Which leagues have full box scores versus just scores and schedules?
Coverage depth varies by league and data provider. Major pro and college leagues generally have full box scores, play-by-play, and often officials/venue data. Some smaller basketball and soccer international leagues may only have final scores and schedules. Check any of NatStat's 30 league pages to see what's available.
What is the difference between Data Exports and the NatStat API?
Data Export, included with all Pass subscriptions, allows you to download any stat grid in CSV, XML, JSON or Excel format. One-click downloads of team, player, game and play-by-play data – including custom downloads that cover multiple seasons – are available via Data Exports under the Analysis tab of any of NatStat's 30 leagues. Customers requiring a more dynamic, flexible solution can access the REST-ful API, with over 25 endpoints and raw, up-to-the-minute data from all our 30 leagues. Full documentation, including data examples and code samples, can be found here.
Do you track betting odds (spread/moneyline), and for which leagues?
Yes, we offer Betsson-provided spreads and money lines for nearly all of our pro leagues. For colleges, they provide odds for major-conference basketball and football only.
How far back does your historical data go for each sport/league?
All National Statistical leagues goe back to at least 2013, but how far beyond that varies widely. NatStat data goes back to the founding of many U.S. major sports leagues, or to when reliable digital records started. Some international leagues have a shorter, more recent history. Check a team or league's own historical pages to see how far back its data goes.
How do you handle team relocations or rebrands in historical data?
We track a team's full identity history, so a franchise that relocated or changed its name keeps one continuous historical record. Viewing an older season shows the team under its name and logo from that era, not its current one.
How can I make a watchlist to track players and teams?
Corrections
I found a bug, or data that needs to be added or corrected.
It may already be a known issue. Please refer to the Database Status page, which can be found under the Analysis tab for any of our 30 leagues,
If the issue you've found isn't listed there, please report bugs, errors or omissions by clicking on the Data Corrections link in the footer of any page of the NatStat website. A window will pop up, and you can quickly and easily inform us of the problem by typing up a brief summary. We'll look into it. Thanks for helping to make our databases better.
How long does it usually take for a reported data issue to be fixed?
Simple data corrections are often resolved within a day. Issues tied to a specific data provider's own internal errors may take longer. Check the Database Status page, found under the Analysis tab for any of NatStat's 30 leagues, to view a list of known issues that we're actively tracking.
Do you credit or acknowledge users who report data corrections?
We don't offer account credit or on-site acknowledgements for data corrections, but we genuinely appreciate every report. Thanks for helping make our databases better for everyone.
Service
I paid for a subscription, but I cannot access the service(s) I paid for.
Sorry to hear that. Please review the following before contacting us directly.
• If you made a payment using a Stripe/Link account with an email address that differs from the email address on your NatStat account, your subscription may be subject to a manual review and/or anti-fraud check by Stripe. These are usually completed very quickly. If you are still blocked from access after a couple of hours, please contact us ASAP. Make sure to include both your Stripe and NatStat email addresses so that we can properly sort things out.
• If you are an Interstat API subscriber, the single authorized IPv4 address is listed on your account page, and can be switched for a different one at any time. You can use a service like WhatIsMyIPAddress.com to identify your current IP.
• If you have suddenly lost access, please review your subscription's status via the Stripe billing control panel to check if your payment method is expired, cancelled or declined. National Statistical does not store any payment information, and is unable to access it from Stripe on your behalf.
• All National Statistical subscriptions are non-refundable. No full or partial refunds will be given, for any reason, including but not limited to user failure to understand NatStat's websites or APIs. Cancelling active subscription(s), which will stop any and all future recurring charges, can be quickly and easily accomplished via the Stripe billing control panel.
• If you a.) have a purchase or subscription listed as paid and active in your Stripe billing control panel, and b.) your Stripe/Link and NatStat account emails are the same (or have been manually matched via Stripe), your National Statistical service is active. As noted in our legal disclaimer, chargebacks or bank reversals associated with a user account will result in a permanent ban, and any associated subscription(s) will be immediately cancelled without refund. We reserve the right to enforce user bans via email and IP blacklists, and to report chargebacks for active NatStat services to Stripe as fraudulent.
I was charged twice for the same subscription. What should I do?
Please check your Stripe billing control panel first — this sometimes happens if a browser resubmits a checkout form. If you see a genuine duplicate charge, contact us with both receipt numbers and we'll investigate.
Why did my account get suspended?
Accounts are typically suspended for sharing credentials beyond our IP-address limits, or for payment fraud/chargebacks, as described in our legal disclaimer. If you believe your suspension was made in error, contact us.
I'm a lifetime pass holder from the 2010s, and I haven't visited for a while. Did my access change?
Only for the better. Existing lifetime and legacy tickets remain fully honored exactly as purchased, and always include access to any new league that we add. Since 2021, NatStat has gone from 22 to 30 leagues; we've added football, soccer, women's pro basketball and minor league hockey, and you get access to all of these... even if you purchased your lifetime pass in 2015.
Access
I can't access the site or API.
Sorry to hear that. Please review the following before contacting us directly.
• Please review the list of active services on your account page. If the service is not highlighted, your service may have expired. If you believe that you are being denied service in error, please contact us directly. Make sure to include the service name and your most recent Stripe receipt number.
• If you are an Interstat API subscriber, the single authorized IPv4 address is listed on your account page, and can be switched for a different one at any time. You may use a service like WhatIsMyIPAddress to identify your current IP.
• If you have suddenly lost access, please review your subscription's status via the Stripe billing control panel to check if your payment method is expired, cancelled or declined. National Statistical does not store any payment information, and is unable to access it from Stripe on your behalf.
Can I access National Statistical from multiple devices at once?
Yes, you can be logged in on as many devices as you like. Keep in mind that API access (including through any app or script) is limited to five distinct IP addresses per 24 hours per account.
Is there a mobile app, or is the mobile website the only option?
We don't currently offer a dedicated mobile app — our website is fully responsive and designed to work well on phones and tablets through your mobile browser.
API
I cannot retrieve data from the NatStat API or Interstat.
Please review the API or Interstat documentation before contacting us. If you are still having issues, use our contact form to enter a ticket. Be sure to include as much detail as possible about your issue, including URIs and code samples.
I am receiving errors that I have accessed the API with too many IPs, but I am not sharing my account. Can you reset this?
Unfortunately this is an issue on your end, not ours. To keep our servers operating efficiently and your subscription costs low, we allow no more than five IP addresses per 24 hours to access the NatStat API via a single user account. Using an internet service provider with rotating IPs, or a VPN, or a remote cloud service will likely surpass this limit so please use a static IP when using National Statistical.
What's the difference between API v3 and v4, and which should I use?
API v4 is our current, actively developed API version — it supports stacking multiple data types onto a single request (for example, game info plus box score plus play-by-play in one call) and gets new endpoints as we build them. API v3 remains fully supported for existing integrations and isn't going away, but new features are only added to v4. If you're starting a new integration, use v4.
What is Interstat, and how is it different from the standard API?
Interstat is a premium, keyless API tier — instead of an API key, access is authorized by a single registered IP address, viewable and changeable anytime on your account page. It's designed for server-side integrations that need to make a high volume of calls without managing a rotating key. See interst.at for documentation.
Can I view samples of the API output before subscribing?
How do I make a call to the National Statistical API?
Calls are made in URI format. They are required to specify a valid endpoint, league (one of 30 available), as well as a valid 11-character API key. You can easily build and test queries with our API query builder tools, found in the Analysis tab of any of our 30 available leagues.
Is there a way to test API calls before spending my quota?
Our API Query Builder tools, found in the Analysis tab of any of NatStat's 30 leagues, let you build and preview a call's parameters before running it against our API servers. Please note that clicking "Execute API Call" uses one of your metered calls, just like calling the API directly. Use the downloadable sample files in the documentation's Endpoint rederences if you only want to see the response shape without spending credits.
How often does my API quota reset, and what happens if I exceed it?
Standard subscriptions get an hourly call quota; API+ subscribers get a daily quota with a higher ceiling. You can check your remaining calls and reset time on your account page. Once you hit your limit, calls will return an error until the quota resets — we don't charge overage fees.
Do you offer webhooks or push notifications for live score updates?
Not currently — our API and Interstat are pull-based. For team/player-specific alerts, use the Watchlist feature, which can email you when your watched teams or players have games.
Can I share my API key with colleagues?
What is API Plus?
National Statistical offers an affordable annual or non-expiring service upgrade for heavy API users who require increased flexibility in terms of volume and access. Instead of a set number of hourly calls, API Plus has 100,000 API calls per day (the counter is reset each day at 12:01 am Eastern Time.) There are no IP or concurrency restrictions, no six-IP block gate like with a regular subscription, but enabled accounts are still subject to NatStat's abuse policy in regards to over-excessive concurrency that directly impacts the availability of the service for other users.
The NatStat API Plus upgrade is an add-on package that requires an existing monthly, annual or non-expiring National Statistical subscription in order to work properly. If your underlying access enters a cancelled, expired or unpaid state, API+ will be suspended until reactivation, and will expire 365 days after purchase. All NatStat products are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
For billing questions, use the Stripe billing portal.
