RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — Two teams coming off dominant season-opening victories will meet Friday when the SIU Edwardsville Cougars visit the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels at McBrayer Arena.

Both teams enter the non-conference matchup with 1-0 records after posting nearly identical blowout wins on Monday. SIU Edwardsville routed Missouri Baptist 96-47, while Eastern Kentucky handled Transylvania 95-41.

The Cougars showcased a balanced attack in their opener. Ava Gugliuzza led all scorers with 17 points, while Emiyah Cobb added 11 points and Adebukola Akomolafe nearly recorded a double-double with nine rebounds and seven points.

The Lady Colonels were equally impressive, with Liz Freihofer pouring in 19 points and Kenleigh Woods adding 16 points and four assists. Althea Kara Angeles contributed 12 points in the win.

The game represents a final tune-up for both teams before challenging road tests. SIU Edwardsville travels to face Northwestern on Sunday, while Eastern Kentucky’s next contest is at home against Evansville on Nov. 12.
