PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — Brown held off a late rally to defeat Rhode Island 28-21 on Friday night at Stevenson Field. The Bears built a 28-14 lead in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from James Murphy to Solomon Miller. Rhode Island quarterback Devin Farrell, who threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns, connected with Matt Smith for a score in the fourth quarter to pull the Rams within seven. Brown’s defense sealed the win with a Miles Brophy interception in the final minute. Murphy threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns for Brown, which improved to 1-1. Rhode Island, which got 60 rushing yards from Antwain Littleton Jr., fell to 4-1.
