Michigan at Eastern Michigan
Preview: Michigan Wolverines at Eastern Michigan Eagles
YPSILANTI, Mich. (Interstat) — In-state rivals Michigan and Eastern Michigan meet Monday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium, with the visiting Wolverines looking to continue a recent uptick against an Eagles squad mired in a losing streak.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:06 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
Michigan (16-14) enters having won two of its last three, including a 4-3 victory over Oregon on Saturday. Eastern Michigan (10-20) has dropped four straight, including a 6-4 loss at Toledo on Friday.
A key matchup will feature Michigan right-hander David Lally, who is expected to start. Lally earned the win against Oregon, allowing one earned run over six innings. His recent outings have been a mix of dominance and struggle, including six hitless innings at Rutgers on March 29 and a rough two-inning start against Nebraska on March 21.
Eastern Michigan will counter with reliever Carter White, who has been a frequent option out of the bullpen. White threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in Friday’s loss at Toledo but has been inconsistent, surrendering three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning against Youngstown State on March 24.
The Wolverines’ bullpen shined in Saturday’s win, with Cade Montgomery and Keegan O’Hearn combining for three scoreless relief innings. Eastern Michigan’s Devan Zirwas provided a bright spot Friday, hitting a home run in the loss.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring Eastern Michigan 6-5.
Following Monday’s contest, Michigan hosts Central Michigan on Tuesday before a weekend series at Michigan State. Eastern Michigan continues its homestand, welcoming Massachusetts for a three-game series starting Friday. The two teams will meet again next Wednesday, April 15, in Ann Arbor.
