William & Mary at Campbell

Preview: William & Mary at Campbell

LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — William & Mary and Campbell open a three-game nonconference series Friday at Jim Perry Stadium, with both teams looking to steady their early-season momentum.

The Tribe (5-5) enter after a 9-2 road loss to VCU on Tuesday. A bright spot in that defeat was reliever Luke Calveric, who threw three hitless innings with three strikeouts. Calveric has been a key arm out of the bullpen, allowing just one earned run over his last 8 1/3 innings of work.

The Fightin’ Camels (4-7) are looking to rebound from a 3-1 series-finale loss to Wright State on Sunday. Starter Cooper Clark was effective in that game, striking out six and allowing two earned runs over five innings. Clark pitched five scoreless innings in a win at Troy on Feb. 21.

William & Mary has won four of its last six games, including taking three of four from Lafayette last weekend. Campbell’s season has been inconsistent, with its most notable win a 13-1 rout at Troy on Feb. 21.

The teams are familiar foes as members of the Colonial Athletic Association. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a first-pitch temperature near 76 degrees.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 victory for William & Mary.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday in Lillington.
