Campbell at College of Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Interstat) — Campbell and College of Charleston close their four-game Colonial Athletic Association series Sunday with a doubleheader at CofC Baseball Stadium at Patriot’s Point. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, with the second game to follow in the evening.

The Fighting Camels (28-14) enter the day seeking a sweep after taking the first two games of the series. Campbell won 16-1 on Friday and 12-8 on Saturday, extending its winning streak in the head-to-head matchup to four games dating to late March. The Cougars (20-22) look to salvage the finale and snap a three-game losing skid.

Forecasters call for partly cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 81 degrees.

Campbell’s Jett Music has been the catalyst at the plate and on the mound. In Saturday’s win, Music went 3-for-3 with two home runs, two RBIs and also pitched 0.2 scoreless innings of relief. Over the first two games of the series, Music is 5-for-5 with three homers and five RBIs, including a 2-for-2, three-RBI effort in Friday’s rout. For the season, Music has shown two-way versatility, including a scoreless inning April 14 at UNC Greensboro and a 2.1-inning outing April 19 against Elon in which he allowed four earned runs.

College of Charleston second baseman Ethan Plyler has been the Cougars’ most consistent producer in the series. Plyler went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Saturday’s loss and is hitting .273 over his past five games. He had a two-hit, two-RBI performance April 17 at William & Mary and added a hit and an RBI April 12 against North Carolina A&T.

The Cougars’ offense has been potent despite the two recent losses. In Saturday’s game, first baseman Alex LaCoste went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and catcher Dylan Johnson was a perfect 5-for-5 with an RBI. College of Charleston has scored eight runs in each of its past two games but has been unable to slow Campbell’s attack.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 win for College of Charleston in the series finale.

Campbell is scheduled to host High Point on Tuesday before beginning a three-game home series against North Carolina A&T on May 1. College of Charleston visits The Citadel on Wednesday before traveling to UNC Wilmington for a three-game series starting May 1.
