Warhawks Remain Undefeated, Overpower Grambling Behind Dominant Second Quarter

MONROE, La. (Interstat) — The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks used a dominant second-quarter surge to pull away from the Grambling Lady Tigers and remain undefeated with a 74-55 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game Tuesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

A tightly contested first quarter, which ended with Grambling holding a slim 13-10 advantage, quickly became a one-sided affair in the second period. The Warhawks erupted for 28 points while holding the Lady Tigers to 15, turning a three-point deficit into a 41-25 halftime lead from which Grambling would never recover.

The Warhawks’ offensive explosion was fueled by a balanced scoring attack and superior efficiency. Louisiana-Monroe shot 46.6 percent from the floor for the game, while Grambling struggled mightily, connecting on just 29 percent of its field goal attempts. The Lady Tigers’ offensive woes were further compounded by a 5-for-24 performance from three-point range and a 13-for-25 showing at the free-throw line.

J’Mani Ingram led the Warhawks with 16 points and six rebounds. She was one of six Louisiana-Monroe players to score in double figures, highlighting the team’s depth. Marcavia Shavers added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Nakiyah Mays-Prince contributed 11 points and four assists. Asia Barclay, Asjah Inniss and Keshunti Nichols each chipped in 11 points as well.

Despite the loss, Grambling’s Shaniah Nunn delivered a standout individual performance. The Birmingham, Alabama, native recorded a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 14 rebounds to go with two blocks.

The Warhawks’ defense was equally impactful, forcing 20 Grambling turnovers and converting them into 13 points. Louisiana-Monroe also dominated the interior, outscoring Grambling 40-16 in the paint. The Warhawks tallied 13 steals and 13 assists, showcasing a disruptive defensive effort and efficient ball movement.

Grambling showed brief signs of life after halftime, outscoring Louisiana-Monroe 14-13 in the third quarter, but could not string together a significant run to seriously threaten the Warhawks’ commanding lead. The teams played to a 15-15 stalemate in the final period.

With the win, Louisiana-Monroe improved its record to 3-0 to start the season. Grambling fell to 1-3. An announced crowd of 2,242 attended the game at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Warhawks will look to continue their winning ways on the road against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. Grambling, meanwhile, faces a tough road test of its own, traveling to face Arizona on Sunday.
