Fairfield at Marist

Preview: Fairfield Stags at Marist Red Foxes

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Fairfield team visits a struggling Marist squad in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday at McCann Recreation Center.

The Fairfield Stags (12-3, 5-0 MAAC) enter on a seven-game winning streak, including a dominant 84-62 road victory at Saint Peter’s on Jan. 8. They have won their five conference games by an average margin of 31.4 points.

The Marist Red Foxes (6-10, 3-2) snapped a two-game skid with a 62-49 home win over Rider on Saturday. They have alternated wins and losses in their last five contests.

Fairfield is led by guard Kaety L’Amoreaux, who is averaging 19.1 points over her last seven games. She recorded a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 98-42 win over Niagara on Jan. 3 and scored 24 points in the win at Saint Peter’s.

Marist counters with guard Danielle Williamsen, who posted 20 points and seven assists in the win over Rider. She averages a team-high 12.1 points per game.

The Stags’ high-powered offense, which has scored 80 or more points in six games this season, will test a Marist defense allowing 64.1 points per game. Fairfield’s Janelle Brown (11 points, 4 assists vs. Saint Peter’s) and Sydni Scott (12 points) provide additional scoring depth.

For Marist, Lexie Tarul is coming off a 22-point performance against Rider, and Jackie Piddock added 11 points and five assists.

The teams will meet again in Fairfield, Connecticut, on Feb. 5.
