Saint Louis at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The La Salle Explorers, looking to rebound from back-to-back losses, will host the Saint Louis Billikens in an Atlantic 10 women’s basketball matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.

La Salle (10-6, 1-2 A-10) saw a three-game conference win streak snapped last week with road losses at George Mason and Saint Joseph’s. The Explorers are 6-1 at home this season. Their offense runs through guard Aryss Macktoon, who is averaging 16.2 points over her last five games, including a 19-point performance in the 69-60 loss to Saint Joseph’s on Jan. 10.

Saint Louis (8-10, 1-2) arrives in Philadelphia seeking to end a three-game skid, most recently a 71-64 defeat at Loyola Chicago on Sunday. The Billikens have struggled offensively during the losing streak, failing to reach 60 points in two of the three games.

The matchup features two of the conference’s standout players. Saint Louis will rely on forward Alyssa Koerkenmeier, who is coming off a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks against Loyola Chicago. She has recorded two double-doubles and four games with at least four blocks in her last seven outings.

For La Salle, Macktoon has been a consistent scoring threat, reaching double figures in nine consecutive games. Support from Joan Quinn (15 points vs. Saint Joseph’s) and Kiara Williams will be key as the Explorers aim to improve their conference standing.

Defensively, La Salle will focus on containing Koerkenmeier inside and disrupting a Saint Louis offense that has been prone to cold spells. The Billikens, who allow an average of 68.2 points per game, must find an answer for Macktoon’s perimeter scoring to snap their losing streak.

Wednesday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Following this game, La Salle will host Davidson on Sunday, while Saint Louis returns home to face Dayton.
