Campbell at Furman

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (Interstat) — Jasmine Felton scored 24 points to lead the Campbell women’s basketball team to a 68-61 victory over Furman on Sunday at Timmons Arena.

The Fightin’ Camels used a dominant second quarter to seize control of the game and held off a late push from the Paladins to secure the non-conference win. Campbell improved to 3-2 on the season, while Furman fell to 2-3.

Felton, a 5-foot-11 guard from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was the engine for the Campbell offense, adding six rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes of action. Her scoring proved crucial in a game where offensive execution was often hard to come by for both sides.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Furman taking a 21-15 lead behind early scoring from Clare Coyle and Chantelle Stuart. The momentum shifted dramatically in the second period, as Campbell’s defense locked down the Paladins. The Fightin’ Camels outscored Furman 23-10 in the quarter, turning a six-point deficit into a 38-31 halftime lead.

Campbell extended its advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Furman 21-17 to carry a 59-48 lead into the final period. The Fightin’ Camels’ offense, however, went cold in the fourth, managing only nine points. This opened the door for a Furman rally.

The Paladins chipped away at the lead and cut it to a single-possession game in the final minutes. Key defensive stops and clutch free throws from Olivia Tucker in the waning seconds ultimately sealed the victory for Campbell.

Tucker finished with 12 points and four assists for the Fightin’ Camels. N’na Konate provided a strong interior presence off the bench, contributing six points and seven rebounds.

Furman was led by Clare Coyle, who scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two assists and two blocks. Chantelle Stuart added 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Alyssa Ervin also chipped in 11 points.

A key factor in the game was Campbell’s ability to capitalize on mistakes. The Fightin’ Camels scored 25 points off Furman turnovers, while the Paladins managed only nine points off Campbell’s miscues. Furman held a slight edge in points in the paint, 34-30.

The announced attendance was 397. Campbell’s next game is Friday against Northern Colorado in Chicago. Furman travels to face Radford on Wednesday.
