CEDAR CITY, Utah (Interstat) — Ava Uhrich scored 30 points to propel Southern Utah to a 77-68 women’s basketball victory over Texas-Arlington on Thursday night at Centrum Arena.

The Thunderbirds used a strong first quarter to build a lead and held off a Mavericks rally after halftime. Southern Utah improved to 14-7, while Texas-Arlington fell to 8-12.

Uhrich, who also had four assists, was the game’s standout. Nya Threatt led the Mavericks with 27 points. Southern Utah capitalized on a significant edge in free throws, making 21 of 30 attempts compared to Texas-Arlington’s 20 of 27, and forced 20 Mavericks turnovers.
