Texas-Arlington at Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah (Interstat) — The Southern Utah Thunderbirds will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their standing near the top of the conference when they host the Texas-Arlington Mavericks in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Thursday night at Centrum Arena.

The Thunderbirds (13-7) edged the Mavericks (8-11) 58-55 in Arlington just over three weeks ago on Jan. 3. Brooklyn Fely was instrumental in that victory, stuffing the stat sheet with 7 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and a block for Southern Utah.

Fely enters this rematch in strong form, coming off a dominant 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in a 62-49 win over Utah Tech on Jan. 24. Over her last four games, she is averaging 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Southern Utah has won two straight and three of its last four, with the lone loss in that stretch a road defeat to a powerful Abilene Christian squad. The Thunderbirds’ defense has been key, holding opponents to an average of 55.3 points in their last three wins.

Texas-Arlington, meanwhile, seeks to halt a two-game skid and avenge its earlier loss. The Mavericks are coming off a low-output 51-37 road loss at Tarleton State on Jan. 21, where they shot just 27% from the field.

Guard Nya Threatt, a player to watch for the Mavericks, will be central to any turnaround. She is coming off a 12-point, 5-assist performance in a win over Utah Valley on Jan. 17 and has been a consistent presence in the lineup, averaging over 28 minutes per game in her last five contests.

The matchup pits Southern Utah’s more efficient offense and recent momentum against a UTA team that has struggled to find consistent scoring. The Thunderbirds will aim to leverage their home court advantage, where they are 8-2 this season, while the Mavericks look to improve upon a 3-7 road record.

Tipoff is set for Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, in Cedar City.
