Memphis Holds Off East Tennessee State After Second-Quarter Surge

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — In a game defined by a dominant second-quarter surge, the Memphis Tigers women’s basketball team overcame a sluggish start to defeat the East Tennessee State Lady Buccaneers 60-54 on Saturday afternoon at FedExForum.

East Tennessee State refused to capitulate, mounting a challenge in the second half. The Lady Buccaneers outscored Memphis 15-19 in the third quarter to keep the game within reach and continued to battle in the final period.

The Lady Buccaneers were led by the backcourt duo of Paige Lyons and Anala Nelson, who each scored 14 points. Lyons, a 5-6 guard from Atlanta, Georgia, was efficient in her 23 minutes, while Nelson, a 5-7 guard from Columbia, South Carolina, added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. In the paint, Kennedy Younkin anchored the effort with a game-high 10 rebounds for East Tennessee State.
