Presbyterian at Charleston Southern

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two Big South women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Charleston Southern Buccaneers host the Presbyterian Blue Hose at CSU Field House.

The Buccaneers (7-16) enter the contest looking to snap a two-game skid after a 60-48 loss to UNC Asheville on Wednesday. The Blue Hose (3-20) aim to end a three-game losing streak following a 70-63 defeat against South Carolina Upstate the same day.

Charleston Southern won the first meeting this season, 77-73, at Presbyterian on Jan. 23. In that game, Buccaneers guard Asha Sra posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, while Presbyterian’s Ja’Cia Cunningham scored 22 points.

Cunningham, a key player for the Blue Hose, is coming off another 22-point performance Wednesday. She has averaged 15.1 points over her last seven games and will be central to Presbyterian’s offensive plans.

Sra remains the catalyst for Charleston Southern, averaging 10.4 points and 6.1 assists in that same seven-game span. Her playmaking will be critical against a Presbyterian defense that has allowed 70.2 points per game this season.

Despite their records, both teams have shown recent flashes. Presbyterian’s last victory was a 50-46 road win at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 21. Charleston Southern had a dominant 85-62 road win at South Carolina Upstate on Jan. 30.

The Buccaneers hold a slight edge in conference play and will have home court advantage. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
