Preview: Georgetown Hoyas at Villanova Wildcats

BRYN MAWR, Pa. (Interstat) — The surging Villanova Wildcats host the struggling Georgetown Hoyas in a Big East women’s basketball matchup Saturday at The Pavilion.

Villanova (18-5) enters on a three-game winning streak and sits near the top of the conference standings. The Wildcats are led by guard Jasmine Bascoe, who is averaging 24.3 points over her last three contests. She scored 27 points in wins over Butler and DePaul last week. Villanova’s offense has been potent, averaging 74.2 points during its current streak.

Georgetown (12-11) looks to snap a three-game skid, with all losses coming by single digits. The Hoyas fell 62-64 at Creighton on Wednesday. Guard Destiny Agubata leads the team and is coming off a 21-point performance in that narrow defeat. She has scored in double figures in seven of her last eight games.

The Wildcats won the season’s first meeting 76-69 at Georgetown on Dec. 4. Containing Bascoe will be a primary concern for the Hoyas, who have shown defensive lapses during their recent slide. Villanova’s balanced attack, which saw Brynn McCurry and Kennedy Henry each add 12 points against Butler, poses a significant challenge.

For Georgetown to pull the road upset, it will need more consistent scoring support for Agubata. Brianna Scott provided 17 points off the bench against Creighton, offering a potential blueprint.

The game tips off at 2 p.m. EST Saturday. Villanova will visit Xavier next Wednesday, while Georgetown hosts Providence on Feb. 14.
