Lindenwood at Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Lindenwood Lions delivered a commanding performance on the road Saturday, overwhelming the Omaha Mavericks in a lopsided women’s basketball contest at Baxter Arena.
From the opening tip, the Lions established a dominant tone, racing out to a 27-8 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The offensive onslaught continued as Lindenwood built a 50-22 advantage by halftime and cruised to the final whistle.
Lindenwood’s attack was both balanced and efficient. Brooke Coffey, a 6-foot-1 forward from St. Charles, Missouri, recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ellie Brueggemann facilitated the offense, dishing out seven assists while adding 14 points. The Lions also received significant contributions from Aleshia Jones with 10 points and four assists, Gracie Kelsey with 13 points, and Gracy Wernli with 11 points.
The Lions’ defense was equally impactful, creating numerous turnovers that led to easy transition baskets and stifling any attempt by Omaha to build momentum.
For the Mavericks, the struggle to find offensive consistency continued. Lillian Merow from Port Washington, Wisconsin, battled inside for 10 rebounds and blocked two shots. Avril Smith, a hometown player from Omaha, pulled down nine rebounds. Sarai Estupiñan led the team’s scoring efforts with eight points and four assists.
The victory improves Lindenwood’s record to 4-1 on the young season, while Omaha falls to 1-6.
An announced crowd of 695 at Baxter Arena watched as the Lions methodically extended their lead through the second half, securing their third win in their last four outings. The Mavericks, conversely, have now lost four consecutive games.
Lindenwood will next head to Honolulu for a game against Santa Clara on Nov. 28. Omaha looks to regroup and will travel to face Idaho State on Dec. 3.
