Army at Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon Ducks used a dominant fourth-quarter performance to pull away from the Army Black Knights for an 80-55 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 4-0, while Army suffered its first loss, falling to 3-1.
The Ducks, who led 35-25 at halftime, saw their advantage tested in the third quarter but exploded for 26 points in the final period to secure the win. A key sequence early in the fourth saw Oregon’s Astera Tuhina and Sofia Bell hit consecutive 3-pointers, stretching a nine-point lead to 15 and effectively putting the game out of reach.
Oregon’s offense was efficient throughout, shooting 56 percent from the floor and a perfect 11 for 11 from the free-throw line. The Ducks also forced 22 Army turnovers, converting them into numerous transition opportunities.
Kya Smith led all scorers with 20 points for Army, adding seven rebounds. Reese Ericson, a native of Lake Oswego, Oregon, dished out eight assists in her return to her home state.
The Ducks showcased a balanced offensive attack. Mia Jacobs paced the team with 17 points and five rebounds, while Amina Muhammad and Sofia Bell each added 14 points. Katie Fiso orchestrated the offense masterfully, recording a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.
Army struggled to find consistent offense, shooting just 2 of 5 from the free-throw line and 7 of 24 from beyond the arc. The Black Knights were also hampered by their 22 giveaways.
Oregon built its initial lead in the first half, closing the first quarter on a 12-2 run to lead 14-6. The Ducks extended that lead to 10 by halftime and weathered a more competitive third quarter before their decisive fourth-quarter surge.
A crowd of 4,646 attended the game at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon next travels to face Washington State on Wednesday. Army returns home to host New Hampshire on Thursday.
