Cornell at Canisius
BUFFALO, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking their first win of the season will meet Sunday when the Cornell Big Red visit the Canisius Golden Griffins in a non-conference women’s basketball game.
The matchup at Koessler Athletic Center pits a pair of winless squads. Cornell (0-2) is coming off a narrow 56-54 road loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Clarke Jackson led the Big Red with 15 points in the defeat, while Rachel Kaus and Emily Pape each added 11 points. Cornell’s season opened with a 64-38 loss at Bryant.
Canisius (0-3) also looks to rebound from a Tuesday road loss, having fallen 96-72 at Syracuse. Shariah Gailes scored a team-high 22 points for the Golden Griffins in that contest, with Franka Wittenberg adding 14 points. Canisius’s season includes a 100-40 loss at Michigan and a 70-39 home loss to Eastern Michigan.
Sunday’s game offers both programs a prime opportunity to get into the win column before continuing their respective schedules. Cornell hosts Colgate on Tuesday, while Canisius travels to Dayton next Friday.
