Louisiana Tech at Louisiana-Monroe

MONROE, La. (Interstat) — The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks used a dominant first quarter and capitalized on a sloppy Louisiana Tech offense to secure a 70-62 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game Friday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

In front of a crowd of 1,593, the Warhawks (2-0) opened the game on a 24-18 run and never relinquished the lead, fending off multiple comeback attempts from the Lady Techsters (0-2) to remain undefeated on the young season.

Louisiana-Monroe’s offense was efficient from the start, shooting 44.6 percent from the floor and converting 15 of 21 free throws. The Warhawks scored 70 points on just 71 possessions, posting an offensive rating of 98.6. In contrast, Louisiana Tech struggled with its efficiency, managing only 62 points from 80 possessions for an offensive rating of 77.0. The Lady Techsters were hampered by 20 turnovers and shot just 33.9 percent from the field.

Kamille Brown led a balanced Warhawks scoring attack with 16 points and five rebounds. She was one of five Louisiana-Monroe players to score in double figures, joined by Keshunti Nichols (12 points), J’Mani Ingram (12 points), Asjah Inniss (12 points) and Nakiyah Mays-Prince, who added 10 points and a game-high seven assists.

Alexia Weaver was the top scorer for Louisiana Tech, finishing with 16 points. Jordan Marshall recorded a double-double with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Paris Bradley contributed 10 points and four assists. Joy Madison-Key provided a strong defensive presence off the bench for the Lady Techsters, blocking two shots and grabbing seven rebounds.

The game was ultimately decided by Louisiana-Monroe’s ability to convert Louisiana Tech’s mistakes into points. The Warhawks recorded nine steals, leading to 19 points off turnovers, while the Lady Techsters managed only six points from Louisiana-Monroe’s 14 giveaways.

Louisiana Tech will look for its first win of the season when it returns home to face La. Christian on Tuesday. Louisiana-Monroe, riding the momentum of its 2-0 start, will host Grambling the same evening.
