American at Lehigh
FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. (Interstat) — The Lehigh Mountain Hawks will look to solidify their position in the Patriot League standings when they host the struggling American Eagles in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.
Lehigh (15-12 overall) enters the contest looking to rebound from a 57-45 road loss at Bucknell on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks had won four of their previous five games prior to that defeat. American (6-22) is mired in a nine-game losing streak, most recently falling 79-76 in overtime at Boston University on Feb. 28.
The Mountain Hawks dominated the first meeting this season, routing the Eagles 79-51 in Washington on Feb. 11. Lehigh guard Lily Fandre was a key contributor in that victory, scoring 15 points in just 23 minutes. Fandre has been a consistent offensive force for Lehigh, averaging 17.4 points over her last seven games, including a 22-point performance in a win at Boston University.
American will rely on forward Charlotte Tuhy, who is coming off a career-high 23-point effort in the overtime loss to Boston University. Over her last eight games, Tuhy has averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds, showcasing her ability to score and defend inside. However, the Eagles have struggled offensively as a team during their skid, failing to reach 60 points in seven of those nine losses.
Lehigh’s offense, which averages over 67 points per game, will test an American defense that has allowed 70.8 points per contest this season. The Mountain Hawks have been strong at home in league play, winning three of their last four at Stabler Arena.
With the Patriot League tournament approaching, Lehigh aims to build momentum, while American seeks to snap its lengthy slide and find a positive note late in the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
