UC Davis at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging UC Davis women’s basketball team looks to continue its climb in the Big West standings when it visits struggling Cal Poly on Saturday.

The Aggies (16-6, 7-2 Big West) have won five of their last six, including a 76-68 victory over Cal State Bakersfield last Saturday. They currently sit near the top of the conference. The Mustangs (3-18, 1-8) have lost eight straight games, most recently falling 70-66 to UC Riverside on Jan. 31.

UC Davis dominated the first meeting this season, winning 87-61 at home on Jan. 10. Aggies center Megan Norris, a key player to watch, had 15 points in just 19 minutes during that rout. The junior is coming off a monumental 18-rebound, 11-point performance against Bakersfield and has averaged 17.3 points over her last four road games.

Cal Poly will lean on guard Charish Thompson, who scored 18 points in the first matchup against UC Davis. She is coming off a strong 20-point, 9-rebound effort in the narrow loss to UC Riverside.

The Aggies’ offense, which features multiple scoring threats like Ryann Bennett and Avery Sussex, will test a Cal Poly defense that has allowed 70 or more points in five of its last six contests. The Mustangs have shown fight at home, with three of their four single-digit losses this season coming at Robert Mott Gym.

Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. PST at Robert Mott Gymnasium on the Cal Poly campus. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

UC Davis visits UC San Diego next Thursday. Cal Poly travels to UC Irvine next Thursday.
