Morgan State at Coppin State

Preview: Morgan State Bears at Coppin State Eagles

BALTIMORE (Interstat) — Two teams seeking a foothold in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings will meet Saturday when the Coppin State Eagles host the Morgan State Bears in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game.

The matchup at Coppin State Physical Education Complex features programs with a combined 7-37 overall record. Coppin State (4-18) holds a slim edge in the standings over Morgan State (3-19), making this a critical game for both as the conference schedule reaches its midpoint.

Morgan State enters having lost two straight, including a 57-71 defeat at Howard on Jan. 24. The Bears are led by guard Kailyn Nash, who scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in that loss. Nash has been a consistent scorer, averaging double figures over her last six games, including a 17-point performance in a win over North Carolina Central on Jan. 8.

Coppin State has also struggled recently, dropping its last three contests. The Eagles fell 58-69 at Norfolk State on Saturday. Forward Sydney Burris has been a bright spot, nearly posting a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in that game. Burris has provided steady interior presence, scoring in double figures in four of her last seven outings.

Both teams have shown flashes of competitiveness within the MEAC. Morgan State earned a narrow 61-59 road win at Delaware State on Jan. 17, while Coppin State opened conference play with a 60-59 victory at Delaware State on Jan. 3 and a 77-70 home win over North Carolina Central on Jan. 10.

Defense and rebounding will likely be pivotal. In their first meetings of the season with common opponents, both teams have had difficulty containing opponents’ offenses, setting the stage for a contest where any sustained run could prove decisive.

The Eagles won both meetings last season. The teams will conclude their regular-season series on March 5 at Morgan State.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, in Baltimore.
