UC Davis at UC San Diego

Preview: UC Davis Aggies at UC San Diego Tritons

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two teams riding contrasting waves of momentum will meet Thursday when the UC San Diego Tritons host the UC Davis Aggies in a Big West women’s basketball matchup at RIMAC Arena.

The Tritons (12-5 overall) enter on a six-game winning streak, their longest of the season, following an 84-66 home victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday. Guard Makayla Rose led the charge with 21 points, continuing a strong stretch that included a 22-point, 7-assist performance in an overtime win at Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 8.

Conversely, the Aggies (12-6) are looking to rebound from a decisive 73-42 road loss at UC Irvine on Saturday, their lowest scoring output of the season. UC Davis shot just 27.3% from the field in the defeat.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top performers. UC Davis will lean on forward Megan Norris, who has scored in double figures in six straight games, averaging 13.1 points during that span. Her consistency will be key for an Aggies offense seeking to regain its rhythm.

UC San Diego counters with its balanced attack, spearheaded by Rose. The Tritons have found success with a defense that has held opponents to an average of 57.2 points during their current win streak.

The teams boast identical 3-1 records in Big West play, adding early conference standing implications to the contest. This is the first of two scheduled meetings this season; they will play again in Davis on Feb. 12.

UC Davis’s next game is at UC Riverside on Saturday. UC San Diego will travel to face UC Irvine on Saturday.
