Bryant at Stonehill
EASTON, Mass. (Interstat) — The Bryant Bulldogs remained undefeated on the young season with a commanding 77-48 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks in a non-conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Merkert Gymnasium.
Bryant’s offense was efficient from the start, building a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and extending it to a 36-15 advantage by halftime. The Bulldogs never relented, outscoring Stonehill in the third and fourth quarters to secure the lopsided win.
The Bulldogs improved to 6-0 overall, while Stonehill evened its record at 3-3.
Nia Scott led a balanced Bryant scoring attack with 16 points. She was one of five Bulldogs to reach double figures, joined by Mimi Rubino with 13, Martina Boba with 12, Mia Mancini with 11 and Maranda Nyborg with nine points.
Bryant’s offensive success was rooted in exceptional shooting and dominance in the paint. The Bulldogs connected on 33 of 53 field goal attempts, a 62.3 percent clip, and outscored Stonehill 50-16 on points in the paint. They also shot 6 for 13 from three-point range.
Defensively, Bryant was equally formidable. The Bulldogs held Stonehill to just 16-for-62 shooting from the floor, a 25.8 percent rate. The Skyhawks managed only 5-of-19 shooting from beyond the arc. Bryant also registered seven blocks, with Nyborg and Scott each contributing two.
Despite committing 17 turnovers compared to Stonehill’s 10, Bryant’s shooting efficiency and defensive pressure proved insurmountable. The Bulldogs scored 1.055 points per possession, while the Skyhawks were limited to just 0.649 points per trip.
Stonehill was led by Reese Roggenburk and Brooke Paquette, who each scored nine points. Emma Arcà and Julia Webster added eight and six points, respectively.
The game was part of the Northeast Conference schedule, though it was a non-conference matchup for both teams. An announced crowd of 143 was on hand.
Bryant will look to continue its winning streak on the road against Boston University on Wednesday. Stonehill returns to action on Dec. 3 at home against Brown.
