Mississippi at Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Mississippi Rebels delivered a dominant defensive performance, cruising to an 84-45 victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in a non-conference women’s basketball game Friday night at T. M. Elmore Gymnasium.

From the opening tip, the Rebels (2-0) established control, outscoring the Bulldogs 25-10 in the first quarter and never looking back. The defensive pressure was relentless, as Mississippi forced Alabama A&M into 29 turnovers, converting those miscues into 36 points. The Rebels also tallied 13 steals and six blocks in the contest.

Offensively, Cotie McMahon led the charge for Mississippi, scoring 20 points in just 25 minutes of action. Christeen Iwuala provided a significant spark off the bench, contributing 15 points, while Sira Thienou and Debreasha Powe each added eight points.

The Bulldogs (1-1), who were coming off a high-scoring win, struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the stifling Rebel defense. Maori Davenport was a bright spot for Alabama A&M, scoring a team-high 18 points. Amber Scott added seven points for the home team.

Mississippi’s efficiency was evident as they scored 84 points on 75 possessions, while Alabama A&M managed just 45 points on 73 trips down the floor. The Rebels also dominated inside, outscoring the Bulldogs 40-28 in the paint and securing 14 offensive rebounds.

The game was played before an announced attendance of 327.

Mississippi’s next game is at home against Southern on Wednesday. Alabama A&M travels to face UAB on the same night.
