Temple Women Roll Past George Washington in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Temple Owls used a dominant second-quarter surge to overwhelm the George Washington Revolutionaries, cruising to an 86-50 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game Friday night at Liacouras Center.

In front of an announced crowd of 1,302, the Owls turned a tight contest into a lopsided affair before halftime, outscoring the Revolutionaries 26-10 in the second period. The win improved Temple’s early season record to 2-0, while George Washington evened its mark at 1-1.

The game was competitive through the opening quarter, with Temple holding a narrow 13-9 lead. But the Owls seized control in the second frame, erupting for 26 points while clamping down defensively to build a commanding 39-19 advantage by intermission. The Revolutionaries never recovered from the onslaught, as Temple maintained its offensive pressure after halftime, adding 25 points in the third quarter and 22 in the fourth. George Washington showed slight offensive improvements as the game progressed, scoring 15 and then 16 points in the second half, but it was nowhere near enough to close the substantial gap.

Temple’s victory was a collective effort, with a balanced scoring attack and strong playmaking fueling the win. Tristen Taylor, a guard from Duncanville, Texas, orchestrated the offense with precision, dishing out eight assists to go with 11 points and four rebounds. Her ability to create opportunities for her teammates was a central component of the Owls’ offensive flow.

The frontcourt provided significant contributions as well. Jaleesa Molina, hailing from The Hague, Netherlands, led all scorers with 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Fellow post player Drew Alexander of Greensboro, North Carolina, was a force off the bench, recording a double-double with 13 points and seven rebounds in just 13 minutes of action. Kaylah Turner from Jacksonville, Florida, also chipped in 14 points.

The Owls also dominated the glass, with Saniyah Craig of Phoenix, Arizona, leading the way. Craig grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, helping Temple control the paint and limit second-chance opportunities for the Revolutionaries.

For George Washington, the offensive struggles were pervasive. The team failed to register a double-digit scorer in any quarter and could not find an answer for Temple’s defensive intensity or offensive execution. The loss served as a stark contrast to their season opener, a dominant 86-47 win over Dist. Columbia just four days prior.

Temple, meanwhile, continued its strong start to the season, building on a hard-fought 94-85 overtime victory against George Mason on Monday. The team’s performance against George Washington, particularly its explosive second quarter, demonstrated a potent and multifaceted offensive unit.

The game’s outcome was largely in line with pregame projections, as Interstat’s ELO system had given Temple a 93.70 percent probability of winning.

Looking ahead, George Washington will aim to rebound quickly when they return home to host Howard on Tuesday, November 11. The Revolutionaries then face a stretch of road games, including trips to Longwood and Georgetown.

Temple, riding the momentum of its 2-0 start, prepares for a challenging road test of its own, traveling to face West Virginia on Tuesday, November 11. The Owls’ upcoming schedule features several tough matchups, including a contest against Villanova and a neutral-site game in the Bahamas against Michigan State.

The contest at Liacouras Center underscored Temple’s depth and early-season form, while highlighting the areas needing improvement for a George Washington team looking to establish consistency in the young season. The Owls’ ability to unleash a game-deciding run and sustain their performance for all four quarters sets a positive tone as they navigate the opening weeks of their schedule.
