Atlanta Braves at Colorado Rockies
DENVER (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves, owners of the best record in the National League, open a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MDT under a forecast of 46 degrees and rain.
Atlanta (22-10) enters as a heavy favorite. The Braves are 1.5-run favorites on the betting line, with an over/under of 10.5 runs. Interstat’s ELO system gives Atlanta a 69.2 percent probability to win. Its game simulator projects an 8-5 final score.
Right-hander Bryce Elder (2-2, 2.63 ERA) will start for Atlanta. Elder is coming off a loss Thursday against Detroit, allowing one earned run over six innings with five strikeouts. Over his past six starts, Elder has posted a 2.12 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 37 innings. He threw seven scoreless innings at Arizona on April 4 and allowed no earned runs in five innings against Miami on April 15.
The Rockies (14-18) counter with right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-1, 4.54 ERA). Lorenzen lost Thursday at Cincinnati, allowing four earned runs over 5.1 innings. He struck out five. In his previous start, Lorenzen earned a win at the New York Mets, yielding one earned run over seven innings with three strikeouts. He has been inconsistent, allowing nine earned runs against Philadelphia on April 3, but also tossing a scoreless inning at San Diego on April 11.
Atlanta lost 5-2 to Detroit on Thursday, snapping a three-game winning streak. The Braves took two of three from the Tigers and have won seven of their last 10. Colorado lost 6-4 to the Reds on Thursday, splitting its four-game series in Cincinnati.
The Braves’ offense has been powered by a deep lineup, while the Rockies rely on timely hitting. Coors Field traditionally inflates scoring, which could challenge both pitching staffs.
Atlanta continues its road trip through Denver before heading to Seattle and Los Angeles. Colorado returns home for a weekend series against the Braves, then hosts the New York Mets.
