Soroka’s 10-K Gem Powers Diamondbacks Past Tigers in Slugfest

PHOENIX (Interstat) — Michael Soroka struck out 10 over five dominant innings, and Corbin Carroll drove in four runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks held off the Detroit Tigers 9-6 on Monday at Chase Field. A crowd of 48,350 watched the Diamondbacks snap a three-game skid.

Arizona built an 8-0 lead behind Soroka, who allowed four hits and no earned runs. Carroll’s three-run homer in the second inning highlighted the early offense. The Tigers rallied for all six of their runs in the seventh, keyed by Colt Keith’s two-run double, but could not complete the comeback.

Paul Sewald earned the save. Justin Verlander took the loss for Detroit. The Tigers evened their record at 2-2, while the Diamondbacks improved to 1-3.
