Detroit Tigers at Arizona Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers, fresh off taking two of three in San Diego, open a three-game series against the winless Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday at Chase Field.

Detroit (2-1) will send veteran right-hander Justin Verlander to the mound. The Diamondbacks (0-3) will counter with right-hander Michael Soroka. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. local time.

The Tigers arrive after a 3-0 loss to the Padres on Saturday snapped a two-game win streak. A bright spot in that defeat was reliever Connor Seabold, who tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He is expected to be a key piece of the Detroit bullpen.

Arizona, meanwhile, is searching for its first victory after being swept in Los Angeles. The Diamondbacks dropped a 3-2 decision to the Dodgers on Saturday despite a strong start from left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, who fired five shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Tigers are projected to win 4-1. However, sportsbooks have installed Arizona as a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under for total runs is set at 9.

Following Monday’s contest, the teams will meet again Tuesday and Wednesday in Phoenix before both embark on different paths. The Tigers continue a road trip with three games in St. Louis starting Friday, while the Diamondbacks will host the Atlanta Braves for four games beginning Thursday.
