Oakland Athletics at Pittsburgh Pirates

PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — Two teams playing out the final stretch of the season will meet again Saturday at PNC Park when the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Athletics.

The clubs opened their three-game interleague series with a pitchers’ duel Friday night, a game that was scoreless through nine innings. Saturday’s contest features a pair of teams well out of playoff contention. The Athletics (72-81) arrive with a better recent stretch of play, while the Pirates (65-88) have struggled to find consistency.

Oakland comes in with momentum from a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Brent Rooker provided the key blow with a two-run home run, while starter J.T. Ginn delivered a quality start, allowing two earned runs over six innings. The Athletics have won seven of their last 12 games.

In contrast, the Pirates are looking to halt a slide after dropping their last three games, including an 8-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. Catcher Joey Bart homered and drove in three runs in that defeat, but Pittsburgh’s pitching staff was unable to contain Chicago’s offense.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, is projected to handily win Saturday’s matchup with a predicted final score of 6-1.

Following this series, the Athletics will return home to begin a seven-game homestand against the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals. The Pirates will embark on a seven-game road trip, facing the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. EDT.
