Chicago White Sox at New York Yankees
NEW YORK (Interstat) — The New York Yankees, clinging to postseason hopes, will send ace left-hander Max Fried to the mound against his former team when they continue a series with the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT, though forecasts call for rain and a temperature of 73 degrees at game time.
The Yankees (88-68) took the series opener 1-0 on Tuesday and have won seven of their last 10 games. They sit in a tight race for an American League wild-card spot. The White Sox (58-98), long eliminated from contention, have lost four of their last five.
Fried (18-5), who spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Yankees, has been a bright spot in a dismal White Sox season. He will face a Yankees lineup coming off a 7-1 win over Baltimore on Sunday, powered by a 4-for-5, five-RBI performance from Ben Rice.
Chicago’s offense has struggled mightily, scoring two or fewer runs in six of its last 10 games, including Tuesday’s shutout loss. The White Sox are 2-8 against the Yankees this season, having been outscored 54-23 in those contests.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 Yankees victory. Following Wednesday’s game, the four-game series concludes Thursday before both teams begin new series on Friday.
