Pirates Outlast Reds in 11-Inning Duel
CINCINNATI (Interstat) — Spencer Horwitz drove in three runs, including the go-ahead double in the 11th inning, to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night at Great American Ball Park.
The Pirates squandered a late two-run lead as the Reds tied it with solo homers from Noelvi Marte in the eighth and Tyler Stephenson in the ninth, then matched Pittsburgh’s extra-inning run in the 10th. Horwitz’s third hit of the game finally put Pittsburgh ahead for good.
Yohan Ramírez earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. The game featured a stellar pitchers’ duel early, with Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes and Cincinnati’s Hunter Greene each striking out seven over six innings. The announced attendance was 30,725 for the 3-hour, 33-minute contest.
