Padres’ Early Onslaught, Vásquez’s Gem Sink Brewers

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Ryan O’Hearn launched a first-inning grand slam and Randy Vásquez combined with two relievers on a four-hit shutout as the San Diego Padres defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 7-0 on Tuesday night at PETCO Park.

The Padres struck immediately, with O’Hearn’s slam off Bruce Zimmermann capping a four-run first. Luis Arraez added a two-run homer in the second for a 6-0 lead. Jose Iglesias homered in the eighth.

Vásquez earned the win, allowing just one hit over seven innings before Yuki Matsui and Wandy Peralta finished the combined shutout before a crowd of 44,089. The NL Central champion Brewers (95-63) saw their magic number to clinch the majors’ best record drop to two. The Padres (87-71) have won four straight.
