Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds

CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs will look to salvage the finale of a four-game series and snap a three-game skid when they face the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon at Great American Ball Park.

The Cubs (88-66), clinging to a National League wild-card spot, have dropped the first three games of the series, including a 7-4 loss on Friday. They have been outscored 12-6 in the series and were shut out 1-0 on Thursday.

Cincinnati (78-76), playing the role of spoiler, has won four of its last five and will go for a series sweep. The Reds have taken advantage of their home park, winning six of the last seven head-to-head meetings in Cincinnati this season. Overall, the season series is tied 6-6.

Third baseman Matt Shaw provided the bulk of the Cubs’ offense in Friday’s loss, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Reds, first baseman Spencer Steer was the difference-maker, blasting two home runs and driving in three runs.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring the Cubs 7-6. Betting markets also lean toward Chicago, installing them as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 8.5.

Following the game, the Cubs return to Wrigley Field to begin a crucial final homestand against the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds will remain at home to host the Pittsburgh Pirates for three games before hitting the road to close the season against the Milwaukee Brewers.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. EDT.
