Indian River State vs Florida Southwestern State
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Florida Southwestern State men’s basketball team will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts struggling Indian River State in a junior college matchup Saturday.
The Buccaneers (13-4) have won four of their last five games, including a 79-64 road victory over Santa Fe on Jan. 24 in their most recent outing. They return home to Suncoast Credit Union Arena favored against a Pioneers squad that has lost three straight and nine of its last 11.
Indian River State (6-9) is coming off a narrow 90-87 loss at Santa Fe on Wednesday. The Pioneers have shown flashes, including a 91-74 win at Polk State on Jan. 17, but have struggled with consistency.
A key matchup will feature two of the region’s top forwards. Florida Southwestern’s Stephen Okoro has been a dominant force on the glass, averaging a double-double over his last five games. He posted 18 rebounds and 11 points at Miami Dade on Jan. 21 and followed with 14 rebounds and nine points against Santa Fe.
For Indian River, Terryon Stebbins is a player to watch. His production has varied, but he delivered a strong all-around performance of 13 points, seven rebounds and an assist in 40 minutes during a loss to Eastern Florida State on Jan. 24. Containing Okoro’s interior presence will likely fall to Stebbins and the Pioneers’ frontcourt.
The Buccaneers’ offense has been potent during their run, scoring 97 points or more in three of their last five contests. Lamont Hartfield (21 points vs. Santa Fe) and Kenyon Giles provide scoring support alongside Okoro.
Indian River State will need to improve its defensive efficiency after allowing an average of 91 points in its last three losses. The Pioneers won the only meeting between these teams last season, 82-80, on Feb. 26, 2025.
Saturday’s game tips off at 4 p.m. EST. Florida Southwestern State will host Polk State next on Feb. 7, while Indian River State travels to Miami Dade on Feb. 11. The teams will meet again in the regular-season finale at Indian River State on March 2.
