WEATHERFORD, Texas (Interstat) — The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Weatherford Coyotes 59-50 in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.

McLennan built a 24-18 lead after the first quarter and extended its advantage by halftime. The Highlanders improved their season record to 6-1 with the road victory. Weatherford’s record fell to 4-9. The outcome defied a pregame statistical projection that forecast a much higher-scoring contest. The teams are scheduled to meet again in Waco on Feb. 11.
