Gillette vs Indian Hills

OTTUMWA, Iowa (Interstat) — The Indian Hills Warriors used a dominant second-quarter surge to overwhelm the visiting Gillette Pronghorns 87-50 in a men’s junior college basketball game Thursday night.

The contest, played at the Hellyer Center, was effectively decided before halftime. After a competitive opening period that saw Gillette trail by just 10 points, the Warriors seized complete control. Indian Hills outscored Gillette 49-22 in the second quarter, turning a 38-28 lead into a 37-point halftime advantage from which the Pronghorns never recovered.

The most important part of the game was the Warriors’ overwhelming defensive pressure and transition offense that fueled the second-quarter run. Indian Hills forced 16 Gillette turnovers for the game, converting them into easy scoring opportunities. The Warriors also dominated the glass, outrebounding Gillette 52-29, which limited the Pronghorns to just six second-chance points and fueled the Indian Hills fast break.

Sawyer Mayhugh led Indian Hills with 18 points and eight rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench, continuing a stretch of strong performances. Ater Manyuon and Vladyslav Semerych each added 13 points, while Chaz Watson contributed 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. The Warriors’ depth was on full display as nine players scored at least six points.

For Gillette, Rashad McCormick shouldered the offensive load with a game-high 22 points. Sayed Sayed added 11 points. The Pronghorns struggled mightily with efficiency, shooting just 29.3% from the field. Their 50 points marked a season low.

Indian Hills improved to 12-2 with the victory, while Gillette fell to an even 5-5. The Warriors entered the game as heavy favorites, with statistical models giving them an 80.6% probability to win, a forecast they exceeded with their lopsided performance.

Both teams return to action Friday. Gillette will host Snow College, while Indian Hills welcomes North Idaho College to Ottumwa.
