Harris-Stowe (MO) vs UHSP

ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — Two men’s NAIA basketball teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Thursday when the Harris-Stowe Hornets visit UHSP.

The game features a pair of struggling programs with identical 1-12 records. Both teams enter on losing streaks, with Harris-Stowe having dropped nine consecutive games and UHSP mired in a 10-game skid. Their only combined victory this season came when UHSP defeated Oakland City (Ind.) 72-70 on Dec. 11.

Harris-Stowe (1-12) is coming off a narrow 84-82 home loss to Crowley’s Ridge on Saturday. In that game, Umar Lawson scored 20 points with seven assists, Adolphus Cast added 22 points and Dimitrije Stojanovic contributed 16 points and seven rebounds. Stojanovic, a key player to watch for the Hornets, has averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds over his last four contests.

UHSP (1-12) was defeated 87-54 by Hannibal-LaGrange in its last outing on Jan. 15. Landon Engelage led the team with 16 points in that loss and has been a consistent offensive bright spot. Over his past five games, Engelage has averaged 18.2 points, including a 25-point performance in a close loss to Crowley’s Ridge on Jan. 8.

The matchup represents one of the best remaining opportunities for either squad to secure a second win this season. The teams will meet again in the regular season finale at Harris-Stowe on Feb. 19.

Tip-off is set for Thursday night.
