Saint Bonaventure at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Saint Bonaventure Bonnies will look to halt a four-game skid when they visit the struggling La Salle Explorers in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup on Saturday at Tom Gola Arena.

The Bonnies (11-6, 0-4 A-10) enter on a streak of narrow league defeats, most recently a 68-64 loss at Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday. Despite the team’s struggles, guard Cayden Charles has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 14.8 points over his last five games. He posted 17 points in the loss to the Hawks and had a 20-point, 8-rebound effort against Fordham last weekend.

La Salle (5-13, 1-3) has lost three of its last four, including a 74-53 defeat at Richmond on Wednesday. The Explorers have found scoring difficult, failing to reach 75 points in eight straight games. Guard Jaeden Marshall has shouldered the offensive load, leading the team with 18 points against Richmond and averaging 16.4 points over his last five contests.

The matchup pits Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt’s seasoned program against a La Salle team under first-year coach Fran Dunphy that has struggled for consistency. Saint Bonaventure’s recent losses have all been competitive, with the last three by a combined 14 points. The Bonnies will rely on Charles and forward Frank Mitchell, who scored 22 points against Saint Joseph’s, to provide offensive punch.

La Salle, which earned its lone conference win at Rhode Island on Jan. 7, will need a defensive resurgence to contain a Bonnies team desperate for its first A-10 victory. The Explorers are 4-4 at home this season.

Saturday’s game is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Following this contest, Saint Bonaventure hosts Loyola Chicago on Tuesday. La Salle continues a tough stretch, hosting Dayton next Wednesday.
