Arizona State at Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the middle of the Big 12 standings meet Saturday when the Colorado Buffaloes host the Arizona State Sun Devils at the Coors Events Center.
The conference matchup features teams with nearly identical records. Colorado (13-10, 3-7 Big 12) seeks to regain momentum after a 67-86 road loss at Baylor on Wednesday. Arizona State (12-11, 4-6) arrives with confidence following a 71-63 victory at Utah that same night.
The game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 3 thriller in Tempe, which Colorado won 95-89. In that game, the Buffaloes’ offense proved potent, a trend they hope continues at home where they are 10-3 this season.
A key matchup will be at guard, where Arizona State’s Maurice Odum faces Colorado’s Barrington Hargress. Odum is the engine for the Sun Devils, averaging 18.4 points and 5.1 assists over his last eight games. He erupted for 33 points and 8 assists in a win over Cincinnati on Jan. 24. Hargress, a steady presence for the Buffaloes, has scored in double figures in eight consecutive contests, including a 20-point performance against UCF.
Both teams have struggled with consistency in league play. The Sun Devils’ win at Utah snapped a two-game skid, while the Buffaloes have lost seven of their last nine, with their sole February win a blowout of TCU.
Colorado will look to leverage its home-court advantage and efficient offense, which averages 78.2 points per game in Boulder. Arizona State will rely on Odum’s playmaking and a defense that held Utah to 37% shooting in its last outing.
A win for either team would provide a crucial boost ahead of the final stretch of the regular season. For Colorado, it’s a chance to stabilize after a rough patch. For Arizona State, it’s an opportunity to even the season series and climb above .500 in conference play.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Saturday at the Coors Events Center.
