Winthrop at Presbyterian
CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two of the Big South’s hottest teams will meet Saturday when the Winthrop Eagles visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose at Templeton Center.
Winthrop (14-8) enters on a six-game winning streak, its longest of the season, following a dramatic 76-75 home victory over Radford on Wednesday. The Eagles have not lost since conference play resumed in early January.
Presbyterian (11-10) has won three straight and four of its last five, including an 87-83 win over Charleston Southern last time out. The Blue Hose have found their rhythm at home in Clinton, where they are 8-2 this season.
The matchup features a compelling duel between standout guards. Winthrop’s Kareem Rozier is averaging 14.6 points per game during the winning streak, including a 20-point effort against Radford. He has been a consistent catalyst for the Eagles’ offense.
Presbyterian will counter with Jonah Pierce, who has been on a scoring tear. Pierce is averaging 21.4 points over his last seven games, highlighted by a 29-point, 12-rebound performance against USC Upstate on Jan. 3. He scored 21 in the win over Charleston Southern.
Winthrop’s surge has been marked by balanced scoring and clutch play. Alongside Rozier, Kody Clouet (19 points vs. Radford) and Logan Duncomb (17 points vs. Radford) have provided key contributions. The Eagles have scored 80 or more points in four of their six conference wins.
Presbyterian’s recent success has been built on efficient offense, scoring at least 86 points in three of its last four victories. Carl Parrish (20 points vs. Charleston Southern) and Josh Pickett provide backcourt support for Pierce.
Historically, Winthrop has dominated the series, but both teams arrive with momentum in a tightly contested Big South race. The Eagles will look to extend their streak and improve their road record, while the Blue Hose aim to protect their home court and continue their ascent in the league standings.
Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon. The teams will meet again in Rock Hill, S.C., on Feb. 28 to conclude the regular season.
