Austin Peay at Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A pair of ASUN Conference teams riding winning streaks will clash Saturday when the Austin Peay Governors visit the Lipscomb Bisons at Allen Arena.
Austin Peay (10-5, 4-0 ASUN) enters on a six-game win streak, its latest an 81-69 road victory at Stetson last Saturday. The Governors have found their rhythm in conference play, averaging 86.5 points per game in their four ASUN wins.
The Governors are powered by guard Zyree Collins, who is averaging 20.5 points over his last four contests. He posted 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the win at Stetson, where teammate Collin Parker led all scorers with 27 points.
Lipscomb (10-7, 3-1) has won three of its last four, including an 84-77 road win at Florida Gulf Coast last Saturday. The Bisons’ offense is fueled by forward Charlie Williams, who erupted for 27 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in that victory. Williams is averaging 18.3 points over his last three games.
The matchup features two of the league’s top offensive units. Austin Peay leads the ASUN in scoring offense at 82.1 points per game, while Lipscomb ranks third at 80.2 points per game. The Governors also boast the conference’s top scoring defense, allowing just 66.7 points in ASUN play.
Lipscomb will look to protect its home court, where it is 7-2 this season. The Bisons’ conference loss came on the road at Stetson, 91-83, on Jan. 8.
This contest is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series. The teams will meet again in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Feb. 5.
Saturday’s game tips off a critical stretch for both teams as they jockey for position in the ASUN standings ahead of the conference tournament in March.
