Detroit at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. (Interstat) — In a commanding display of both offensive firepower and defensive pressure, the Michigan State Spartans remained undefeated Friday night, dispatching the visiting Detroit Titans 84-56 at a packed Breslin Center.

A crowd of 14,797 watched as the Spartans improved to 5-0 on the young season, while the Titans fell to 1-5.

The outcome was rarely in doubt, as Michigan State established control early with a 41-point first half, building a 16-point lead by the break. The Spartans’ dominance was rooted in a balanced attack and an ability to capitalize on Detroit’s mistakes. They outscored the Titans 18-10 in points off turnovers and 16-9 in fastbreak points, consistently turning defense into easy offensive opportunities.

Jeremy Fears orchestrated the Michigan State offense with a masterful performance. The guard from Joliet, Illinois, played 28 minutes and tallied a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists, consistently breaking down the Detroit defense and setting up his teammates for high-percentage shots.

He was complemented by a strong frontcourt presence. Coen Carr of Stockbridge, Georgia, added 13 points and two blocks in his 28 minutes, while the Spartans’ big men dominated the interior. Carson Cooper from Jackson, Michigan, scored 12 points, and Jaxon Kohler of American Fork, Utah, chipped in 13 points, as Michigan State outscored Detroit 34-24 in the paint.

The Titans were led by Orlando Lovejoy, a Detroit native who scored 14 points and dished out four assists. Ayden Carter from Fremont, Ohio, and TJ Nadeau of South Lyon, Michigan, each contributed 10 points, but the team struggled to find consistent scoring against the Spartans’ stout defense.

Michigan State’s victory was a methodical one, built on a series of runs that prevented Detroit from ever mounting a serious challenge. After a slow start for both teams, the Spartans seized momentum midway through the first half and never relinquished it, maintaining a double-digit lead for the entirety of the second half.

The Spartans will look to continue their unbeaten streak on the road, traveling to Fort Myers, Florida, to face East Carolina on Tuesday. Detroit, still searching for its second win, heads to Chicago for a Sunday matchup against DePaul.
