Toledo at Ohio
Preview: Toledo Looks to Sweep Season Series at Ohio
ATHENS, Ohio (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Mid-American Conference standings will meet Saturday when the Ohio Bobcats host the Toledo Rockets at the Convocation Center.
The matchup features near-identical records, with Toledo at 15-13 overall and Ohio at 14-13. The Rockets won the first meeting this season decisively, 101-85, at home on Jan. 13.
Toledo arrives having won three of its last four, including a 79-69 victory over Northern Illinois on Tuesday. The Rockets are powered by guard Sonny Wilson, who is averaging 17.4 points and 4.4 assists over his last seven games. He scored 17 points with seven assists in the win over NIU.
Ohio has also found recent form, winning three of its last four. The Bobcats are coming off a 74-66 road win at Northern Illinois on Feb. 21, led by a dominant performance from forward Javan Simmons. He posted 23 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in that contest. Over his last six games, Simmons is averaging 16.5 points and 5.2 rebounds.
The game will hinge on contrasting strengths. Toledo’s high-octane offense, which put up 101 points in the January win, will test an Ohio defense that has held its last two opponents under 70 points. Containing Wilson’s penetration and playmaking will be a primary focus for the Bobcats.
Conversely, Ohio will look to establish Simmons inside and control the paint, an area where they were outscored in the first matchup. The Bobcats’ home court advantage, where they are 9-4 this season, could be a factor in a tight conference battle.
Both teams are battling to secure a favorable seed for the upcoming MAC tournament, making this a critical late-season showdown. The rematch promises a more competitive affair after January’s lopsided result.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, in Athens.
