Western Carolina Outlasts UNC Asheville in Back-and-Forth Contest

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (Interstat) — Cord Stansberry scored a game-high 29 points Wednesday night to lead Western Carolina to an 80-73 men’s basketball victory over UNC Asheville at Ramsey Center. The Catamounts improved to 3-2 while the Bulldogs fell to 2-3.

Western Carolina never trailed in the second half but could not pull away, as UNC Asheville’s Toyaz Solomon answered with 22 points and three blocks. The Bulldogs shot 50% from the floor and made 11 three-pointers but were hampered by 12-of-23 shooting from the free-throw line. The Catamounts capitalized at the line, making 23 of 29 attempts, and held a decisive 15-5 advantage in offensive rebounds.
