UNC Asheville at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two in-state foes with identical records will meet Wednesday when the UNC Asheville Bulldogs visit the Western Carolina Catamounts in a nonconference men’s basketball game.

Both teams enter the contest at the Ramsey Center with 2-2 records. The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant 92-54 win over Bryan on Thursday, where their scoring was balanced. Myles Mayfield and Toyaz Solomon each scored 13 points, while Justin Wright dished out eight assists.

UNC Asheville has shown resilience early, bouncing back from a season-opening road loss at Wichita State to win two of its last three, including a 69-64 home victory over Lipscomb.

Western Carolina also rides the momentum of a recent win, having defeated Stetson 76-65 on Sunday. Julien Soumaoro led the way with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Marcus Kell added 17 points. The Catamounts’ two losses, however, have been lopsided road defeats at the hands of Duke and Cincinnati.

The game represents a key regional matchup for both squads before they diverge on their respective schedules. UNC Asheville will host Tennessee State next Tuesday, while Western Carolina travels to face Lipscomb on Saturday.

Tipoff is set for Wednesday night in Cullowhee.
