Cowboys Dominate Golden Eagles in Season Opener Behind Balanced Attack
STILLWATER, Okla. (Interstat) — In a dominant season-opening performance that lived up to its billing as a heavy favorite, the Oklahoma State Cowboys overwhelmed the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles 95 to 71 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Tuesday night before an announced crowd of 6,211 at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowboys, projected by statistical models to win with over 90 percent certainty and installed as 19-point favorites, methodically dismantled the Golden Eagles, using a potent offensive attack and a significant advantage in the paint to secure a decisive victory. The game’s total points, 166, comfortably exceeded the pregame over/under line of 157.5.
Oklahoma State seized control of the contest from the opening tip, establishing a commanding lead in the first half that Oral Roberts could never seriously threaten. The Cowboys’ offense operated with efficiency and balance, building a 50 to 46 halftime advantage. While the Golden Eagles managed to keep pace initially, their offensive production plummeted after the break. Oral Roberts scored only 25 points in the second half as the Cowboys extended their lead, adding 45 points of their own to pull away for the 24-point margin of victory.
The statistical profile of the game underscored Oklahoma State’s comprehensive performance. The Cowboys outscored Oral Roberts 44 to 30 in the paint, highlighting their interior dominance. Both teams were nearly even in points off turnovers, with Oklahoma State holding an 18 to 16 edge, and in fastbreak points, where Oral Roberts narrowly led 16 to 14. However, the Cowboys’ superior shooting and offensive execution proved to be the decisive factors.
A quartet of standout performances fueled the Oklahoma State offense. Vyctorius Miller led all scorers with 21 points, showcasing his scoring prowess over 27 minutes of action. He was complemented by a formidable inside presence from Christian Coleman and Parsa Fallah. Coleman recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Fallah neared one of his own with 15 points and eight boards. The Cowboys’ offensive engine was point guard Jaylen Curry, who orchestrated the attack with a well-rounded stat line of 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a team-high 31 minutes. Off the bench, Andrija Vukovic provided a significant spark, contributing 11 points and four rebounds in just 18 minutes.
For Oral Roberts, the loss in its season opener was a difficult start against a high-major opponent. The Golden Eagles were led by Ty Harper, who finished with a team-high 18 points and six rebounds. Jack Turner added 14 points, while Ofri Naveh contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Perhaps the most notable individual performance for the Golden Eagles came on the defensive end, where Connor Dow swatted away seven shots, a remarkable defensive effort that nonetheless was not enough to slow the Cowboys’ multifaceted offensive attack.
The game sets both teams on their respective paths for the 2025-26 season. Oklahoma State begins its campaign with a 1-0 record and will look to build on this momentum. The Cowboys’ schedule continues with a home game against Texas A&M on Sunday, Nov. 9, followed by contests against Prairie View and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Oral Roberts, now 0-1, will seek its first win when it returns home to host John Brown University on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Golden Eagles face a challenging non-conference slate that includes home games against Tulsa and Belmont, as well as a road test against in-state power Oklahoma on Thursday, Nov. 20.
The contest served as a showcase for Oklahoma State’s depth and offensive firepower, fulfilling the high expectations placed upon them. For Oral Roberts, it was a stern opening test that revealed areas for improvement as the team looks ahead to a long season and the pursuit of its first victory.
