Schwieger Leads Royals Past Ospreys in ASUN Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — In a game defined by a decisive second-half surge, the Queens Royals overpowered the North Florida Ospreys 91-72 in an ASUN Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday afternoon at Levine Center.

A crowd of 1,026 watched the Royals improve to 14-11 overall, while the Ospreys fell to 6-19. The victory completed a regular-season sweep for Queens, which also won in Jacksonville last month.

The game’s pivotal shift came after halftime. North Florida, fueled by hot three-point shooting, trailed by just a single point, 51-50, at the intermission. The Ospreys connected on 8 of 16 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, with Kamrin Oriol and BJ Plummer each hitting a pair to keep pace with the Royals’ efficient interior offense.

That balance vanished in the second period. Queens tightened its defense, and North Florida’s offense stalled completely, managing only 22 points on 5-of-22 shooting from the field after the break. The Ospreys’ final lead came at 58-56 following a Kent Jackson three-pointer with 18:47 to play.

From there, the Royals unleashed a game-defining 30-8 run over the next 13 minutes, transforming a tight contest into a blowout. The surge was a showcase of Queens’ offensive versatility and defensive pressure. They dominated the paint, outscoring North Florida 44-16 inside, and capitalized on 13 Osprey turnovers to generate 14 points.

The Royals’ offensive execution was clinical. They scored 91 points on just 70 possessions, an elite offensive rating of 129.8, and were a perfect 15 for 15 from the free-throw line. In contrast, North Florida managed an offensive rating of 101.6, hampered by a season-low 2 assists for the entire game against 13 turnovers.

Carson Schwieger led all scorers and was the catalyst for Queens. The 6-foot-8 forward from Overland Park, Kansas, scored 29 points in 30 minutes, shooting 10 of 16 from the field and 5 of 9 from three-point range. His scoring flurries, including two critical three-pointers during the decisive second-half run, consistently thwarted any momentum North Florida tried to build.

Schwieger received ample support. Avantae Parker posted 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Jordan Watford added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Yoav Berman orchestrated the offense with 6 assists to go with 12 points, 4 rebounds and a block.

For North Florida, Mason Lee led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Nestor Dyachok added 12 points and Kamrin Oriol finished with 15, all of which came on five three-pointers. The Ospreys finished 12 of 27 from deep but were undone by their inability to generate easy baskets or contain the Royals’ multifaceted attack.

The loss extends a difficult season for North Florida, which has now lost three of its last four. Queens, meanwhile, builds momentum as it moves above .500 in conference play, its efficient performance a blueprint for success against the league’s more struggling defenses.

Both teams return to action Wednesday. North Florida travels to face Florida Gulf Coast, while Queens remains at home to host Austin Peay.
