Texas Routs Rider in Dominant Home Victory

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Longhorns delivered a dominant, wire-to-wire performance Tuesday night, overwhelming the Rider Broncs with superior efficiency and athleticism in a lopsided men’s basketball contest at the Frank Erwin Center.

From the opening tip, the Longhorns established control, racing out to a 44-28 halftime lead and never relenting, ultimately cruising to a 99-65 victory before an announced crowd of 10,641. The win improved Texas to 4-1 on the young season, while Rider fell to 1-3.

The game was defined by a stark contrast in offensive execution. Texas operated with surgical precision, scoring 99 points on 76 possessions for an elite offensive rating of 130.0. Rider, by comparison, managed just 65 points on 74 possessions, an offensive rating of 88.4. The Longhorns’ blistering efficiency was fueled by exceptional shooting, as they connected on 55 percent of their field goal attempts, going 33 for 60. Rider struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm, shooting a frigid 21 for 62 from the floor, a 33.9 percent clip.

Texas showcased a balanced and explosive scoring attack, with three players eclipsing the 20-point mark. Dailyn Swain, a 6-foot-8 sophomore from Columbus, Ohio, led the way with a game-high 26 points in just 26 minutes, adding three assists. He was a constant force, attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line. He was complemented by the interior dominance of 7-foot Lithuanian Matas Vokietaitis, who scored 20 points and blocked a shot, and the sharp shooting of Camden Heide, who also poured in 20 points, including three shots from beyond the arc.

The Longhorns’ ball movement and defensive pressure were also decisive factors. They dished out 10 assists compared to a paltry two for the Broncs. Defensively, Texas forced 12 Rider turnovers while committing only six themselves, translating that advantage into a 19-6 edge in points off turnovers. The Longhorns also recorded 10 steals, led by their relentless backcourt.

Perhaps the most telling statistic was the battle in the paint, where Texas imposed its will, outscoring Rider 42-8. The Longhorns also capitalized in transition, racking up 34 fastbreak points to Rider’s four, highlighting the vast difference in speed and athleticism between the two squads.

Rider’s offense was led by Flash Burton, a guard from Philadelphia who scored 16 points. Beyond Burton, the Broncs found little consistent production, with Caleb Smith adding eight points. Rider did find some success from the free-throw line, converting 16 of 18 attempts, but it was far from enough to keep pace with the Texas onslaught.

The outcome was never in doubt after the opening minutes. Texas opened the game on a 12-2 run, punctuated by a dunk from Vokietaitis and a three-pointer from Heide. Rider briefly closed the gap, but the Longhorns responded with another burst, extending their lead to 17 points midway through the first half and never allowing the Broncs within striking distance again. A three-pointer from Simeon Wilcher at the first-half buzzer sent Texas into the locker room with a commanding 16-point advantage.

The second half was more of the same, as Texas continued to expand its lead, methodically dismantling the Rider defense with a combination of interior scoring and timely three-point shooting. The Longhorns’ depth was on full display as they maintained their intensity throughout the roster, with Wilcher finishing with 12 points and five assists.

The game played out largely as expected, with Texas easily covering the pregame spread of 29.5 points. The combined score of 164 points sailed well over the over/under line of 144. The Longhorns will look to build on this commanding victory when they host Arizona State on Monday, Nov. 24, in Lahaina, Hawaii. Rider, meanwhile, faces a quick turnaround and a formidable challenge, traveling to face Houston on Thursday, Nov. 20.
